We are committed to producing Gaelic theatre with the highest production values. Through the innovative use of multi-media and digital technologies, we bring Gaelic theatre to a wide and diverse audience across Scotland. Both creative learning and skills development are an integral part of our work. We are passionate about encouraging contemporary Gaelic writing and creating a new repertoire of published Gaelic drama.

In 2022 Theatre Gu Leòr was nominated for Best Radio Drama at the Celtic Media Awards for our series of four newly commissioned Gaelic radio dramas Rudeigin Ri Ràdh / Something to Say in partnership with BBC Radio nan Gàidheal. In 2021 Theatre Gu Leòr won the Arts and Culture Award, sponsored by Creative Scotland, at the Scottish Gaelic Awards for the same series. In 2018 our production of Cèilidh was shortlisted and our production of Shrapnel also won the Arts and Culture Award in 2016.

Seona McClintock starts as Creative Director Theatre Gu Leòr

We would like to warmly welcome Seona McClintock as she takes up post as Theatre Gu Leòr’s new Creative Director.

Seona is a creative producer who has worked for several different companies, such as NTS, Magnetic North, Eden Court and the Tron, as well as Theatre Gu Leòr itself.

Muireann Kelly standing down as Artistic Director

Theatre Gu Leòr’s Artistic Director, Muireann Kelly, will be leaving the company to take up a post as Artistic Director with Fíbín at An Taibhdhearc, the National Irish Language Theatre in Galway. More information here.

Michelle Macleod, Chair of the board of Theatre Gu Leòr said: “On behalf of everyone associated with Theatre Gu Leòr over the years, I wish to thank Muireann for all her hard work and enthusiasm for the company and Gaelic drama more broadly. We will miss Muireann very much but wish her success in her new role.”


The world premiere of our latest production, Stornoway, Quebec, will take place in March/April 2023, with a tour opening at An Lanntair in Stornoway, and taking in Mull, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness and Glasgow. Full information here.

We have a bespoke agreement with Equity and follow their recommended rates of pay, terms and conditions. We also follow guidance from Scottish Society of Playwrights when commissioning new work, rates of pay and terms, and Playwrights’ Studio Scotland rates of pay when working with dramaturges. We also use other relevant industry standard rates of pay, terms and conditions . We follow Creative Scotland’s guidance on commitment to Fair Pay.
